Improving Your Computer’s Overall Performance – By Developing a Maintenance Culture

At times I wonder the amount of time we spend waiting for a computer to start or shut down. I am sure that the accumulated time over the year might be equivalent to our monthly pay!!

A fast and reliable computer is a key requirement for success for every business owner, job seekers, and for gamers and for retirees. Social media sites, online video and TV sites, online stores, games and business tools now require faster computers with a lot of resources, like adequate processor speed, memory and hard disk space.

If you notice your computer is slow or if you have notice delays in starting your applications, it is a sign that your computer needs to undergo maintenance and it should be done before it becomes unbearable.

There are simple and cost-effective ways of increasing the speed of your computer:

  • Scan your computer for viruses, spyware and adware using a anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti malware product. There are so many products you can use to purchase or download to clean your computer regularly. Schedule the scans and cleanup nightly so that your computer is ready for use when you wake up in the morning.
  • Remove unwanted applications and files that you no longer need. For files, perform a backup of your archives and delete them from the computer.
  • Use the defragmentation tool available on your computers to keep your hard drive healthy. Doing so will enable your files and applications load faster.
  • Clean temporary files, temporary internet files, and unwanted cookies from your internet browser

Note that new laptops and desktop will also experience performance problems if you do not maintain them. I strongly advise everyone to save their money by maintaining your computer.

In summary, having a healthy computer at home or work is almost like having a happy spouse, child or boss. As we keep ourselves healthy, let us not forget about our computers. There are lots of tools that you can use to keep your PCs healthy – some are free and some others are not expensive to purchase. Let us do this.
